The short version: Clarus runs on your computer. Your screenshots and recordings stay on your machine unless you choose to upload one. We do not have analytics, telemetry, ads, or trackers, and we have never sold anything to anybody.

What stays on your computer

By default, everything. Captures, recordings, your edit history, your settings and the search index are all stored locally, in your own folders and in %APPDATA%\dev.getclarus.app.

That includes text recognition. Clarus reads the text inside your captures so you can search for it, and that runs entirely offline on your machine — no image is sent anywhere to be read.

What we collect, and only when you ask for it

There is no analytics SDK in Clarus. We do not record which features you use, what you capture, or when you open the app.

Who else can see your uploads

Anyone you give the link to. A share link is a long random address that is not listed or indexed anywhere, and pages under /s/ tell search engines not to index them — but a link is a key, so treat it like one. You can add a password to a link, set it to expire, stop sharing it, or delete the file outright, from the app or from your library on the web.

Uploaded files are stored privately. They are never publicly listed, and each view is served through a short-lived address that stops working shortly afterwards.

Recordings uploaded on the free plan are deleted after 24 hours. The link keeps working and says the recording is no longer available.

Companies that handle data for us

We do not sell or share your data with anyone else, and nothing is used to train anything.

How long we keep it

Uploads stay until you delete them, or until a link you set an expiry on runs out, or — for recordings on the free plan — 24 hours. Account details stay until you ask us to close your account, at which point we delete them and your uploads.

Your choices

Depending on where you live you may have rights to access, correct, export or erase your data. Ask and we will do it.

Children

Clarus is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data.

Changes

If this policy changes in a way that matters, we will say so in the app rather than quietly editing this page.

Contact

Email [email protected] — for anything, including a request to delete your account and everything in it. You can also use Feedback inside Clarus (Settings → Feedback), which reaches the developer directly and lets you attach a screenshot.
