Terms of Service

The short version: Clarus is a Windows app for taking screenshots and recording your screen. Use it for anything lawful. Don't upload things you have no right to share. We'll do our best to keep it running, but keep your own copies of anything you care about.
Using Clarus
You may install and use Clarus on your own computers. The app itself is licensed to you, not sold, and its source is not public.
You need an account only for the cloud. Everything else — capturing, editing, recording, text recognition — works without one.
Your account
Sign-in is by a code sent to your email, so keep access to that inbox. You are responsible for what happens under your account. One person, one account — an account can be signed in on one computer at a time; signing in elsewhere signs the previous machine out.
Your content is yours
Everything you capture, record or upload stays yours. We claim no ownership of it. We store and serve it only to run the service for you — to hold your uploads, show them to whoever you send a link to, and let you search your own library.
What not to upload
Don't use the cloud to store or share anything unlawful, anything you don't have the right to share, malware, or material that sexually exploits children. We can remove content and close accounts that break this. We don't go looking through your uploads, but we will act on reports.
Free and Pro
- The app is free to use.
- Some features are part of Clarus Pro, and cloud storage limits differ between free and Pro.
- Recordings uploaded on the free plan are deleted after 24 hours. The link keeps working and explains that the recording is gone.
- A free trial can be claimed once per computer.
Where paid plans are offered, prices and what's included are shown before you pay, payments are handled by Stripe, and a subscription renews until you cancel. Cancel any time; you keep Pro until the period you've paid for ends. If something was charged in error, tell us and we'll sort it out.
Storage is not a backup
Please keep your own copies of anything that matters. Uploads can be removed under these terms, expire because you set them to, or — for free-plan recordings — be deleted after 24 hours by design.
Updates
Clarus updates itself in the background so you're on a current, supported version. Updates are signed, and the app checks that signature before installing one.
The honest disclaimer
Clarus is provided as it is. We can't promise it will never lose a capture, never crash, or always be available, and to the extent the law allows we're not liable for indirect or consequential losses. Nothing here takes away rights you have under the law where you live that can't be waived.
Ending things
You can stop using Clarus whenever you like and ask us to delete your account. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms.
Changes
If these terms change in a way that matters, we'll say so in the app rather than quietly editing this page.
