How to record your screen with your webcam

A screen recording with a face in the corner is far easier to follow than one without. Here is how to get one on Windows.
What Windows gives you
Not much, honestly. Xbox Game Bar records your screen and your microphone, but it will not overlay your camera. The Camera app records your camera but not your screen. There is no built-in way to get both in one file, which is why almost everyone reaches for a third-party tool at this point.
The free third-party option
OBS Studio is free, open source, and can do this and far more. If you are willing to learn a scene-and-source model, it is genuinely excellent and costs nothing. The trade-off is setup time: OBS is a broadcasting tool, and a five-minute walkthrough recording is not what it was designed around.
Doing it in Clarus
Turn the webcam on before you start recording, from the recording bar or the tray menu. It appears as a movable overlay on your screen and is baked into the finished MP4, so there is no compositing step afterwards.
The microphone is recorded on its own track and mixed with system sound, so you can talk over what you are showing. You can mute the microphone mid-recording without ending the take, which is useful when someone walks in.
Then edit it
The recording opens on a timeline. Trim the dead air at the start, split out the bit where you lost your thread, and close the gap. Add an arrow that appears only while you are talking about that button. Blur anything private that appeared on screen.
Which to choose
If you stream, or you need multiple scenes and sources, use OBS. If you want to record a walkthrough with your face on it and edit it in the same tool, that is what Clarus is for. Webcam recording is a Pro feature, and every new account gets a free month.
