How to share a screenshot with a link

6 August 2026

Attaching a file works until the file is 8 MB, or the chat compresses it, or you need to send the same thing to five people. A link avoids all three.

The free ways

Imgur and similar hosts will take an image and give you a URL without an account. It is quick, and for a throwaway meme it is fine. Be aware that public image hosts are public: anything you upload can be found, and several of them have deleted old anonymous uploads.

OneDrive, Google Drive or Dropbox will host it privately and give you a share link. More steps, but it is your storage and your access control.

Why a screenshot tool doing it is different

The friction is not the upload, it is the round trip: save the file, open a browser, find the file, wait, copy the URL. In Clarus the capture card has a cloud button. One press uploads it and puts the link on your clipboard, and you never touch a file manager.

Making the link behave

A link you cannot take back is a liability. Clarus links can:

You can set a default expiry and a default password once, in Settings → Cloud, so every new link gets them without you thinking about it.

Groups

If you have several captures that belong together, group them and share one link for the set. A capture inside a set follows the set's rules, so setting an expiry or a password on the set applies to everything in it rather than leaving the individual links open.

What it costs

Cloud sharing is free with 250 MB of storage. Pro raises that to 5 GB. Free-tier recordings are removed after 24 hours; screenshots are not.
